Why the parasitic inductance decides the result
A snubber only works if its own loop inductance is low enough to respond inside the switching edge. CBB84 uses a low-inductance internal construction and matched termination so that the capacitor presents a low-impedance path during the commutation interval — that is what turns a snubber from a component into an actual reduction of VCE overshoot.
The three duties
- Snubber protection (CBB84): clamps the over-voltage across the switch during turn-off.
- Absorption and resonant circuits for high-power IGBT modules: specially constructed types that can be used together with snubber capacitors.
- High-frequency high-current resonant (CBB88): high ripple-current capability for induction heating and high-frequency power supplies.
| Series | Duty | Key feature |
|---|
| CBB84 | IGBT snubber protection | Low-inductance construction, low loss |
| IGBT absorption / resonant | Absorption and resonant circuits of power IGBT modules | Special construction, matched to IGBT modules |
| CBB88 | HF high-current resonant circuits | High ripple current, low loss |
| C480 / C481 | DC-link support behind the module | IEC 61071, 450 – 2,300 V DC |
Frequently asked questions
Which capacitor should I use in a two-level IGBT inverter?
CBB84 for snubber duty across the module, plus a DC-link capacitor (C480/C481) for the bus. The split matters: the snubber handles the switching edge, the DC-link supplies the low-frequency ripple current.
Can you match a specific module footprint?
Yes. Send the module type and the available envelope; custom designs and small batches are supported.
Do you supply capacitors with low ESL for high-frequency switching?
Yes — the low-inductance construction of CBB84 and the CBB88 family are both intended for high-frequency switching duty.
What is the lead time for CV series mica capacitors?
Standard items are produced in 4–8 weeks from order confirmation. Custom designs are scheduled individually.
