Where the capacitor sits
An induction heating generator drives a work coil through a resonant tank. The capacitor bank defines the resonant frequency and, together with the coil, carries a circulating current that is a multiple of the load current. The capacitor therefore has to be specified against ripple current and internal temperature rise, not against nominal capacitance alone.
The two relevant families
- CBB88 — high-frequency, high-current resonant capacitors with high ripple-current capability, for induction heating and high-frequency power supplies.
- CHOW — high-frequency and medium-frequency AC capacitors, 250 – 3,500 V, 1,000 pF – 10 µF, matched to induction heating equipment and frequency converter cabinets.
Also in the cabinet
The control and measurement side of an induction heater uses small stable capacitors — timing, filtering and sensing circuits. The CV series mica capacitors cover those positions at −55 °C to +155 °C, where a ceramic part would drift with temperature and the cabinet interior runs hot.
| Series | Frequency range | Voltage | Capacitance | Role |
|---|
| CBB88 | High frequency | per rating table | per rating table | Tank / resonant, high ripple current |
| CHOW | MF and HF AC | 250 – 3,500 V | 1,000 pF – 10 µF | Resonant and AC circuits |
| CV series (mica) | up to HF | 630 V – 20 kV DC | 100 pF – 2.2 µF | Control, timing, filtering |
| C451 – C458 | Pulse / high dV/dt | 100 – 3,000 V | 0.001 – 33 µF | Pulse and filter duty in the supply |
Frequently asked questions
How do I size a resonant capacitor for an induction heater?
From the tank frequency, the circulating current and the cooling available — send those three and we will propose the series and the bank configuration.
Do you supply water-cooled capacitors?
Water-cooled constructions are available; state the cooling method and the ambient conditions in your inquiry.
Can you replace an existing capacitor bank?
Yes. Send the cabinet rating, the resonant frequency, the bank arrangement and the original part number if available.
