About the KSO family
KSO (moulded silver mica) capacitors were produced in numbered variants KSO-1 through KSO-13, differing mainly in case size, voltage rating and capacitance range. The dielectric is silvered mica in a moulded compound case with axial leads — the same principle as the CV series, but built to a temperature ceiling of around +70 °C and to tolerances that reflect the production standards of their era.
What changes with the CV replacement
- Temperature: KSO ≈ −60 °C to +70 °C → CV series −55 °C to +155 °C (up to +250 °C on special order). This is an increase in capability, not a lateral substitution.
- Tolerance: ±2 %, ±5 %, ±10 % and ±20 % are available in the CV series.
- Voltage and capacitance coverage: 250 V – 7,000 V DC and 10 pF – 50,000 pF are covered within the CV series ranges (630 V – 20 kV, 100 pF – 2.2 µF).
- Documentation: current technical specification, dimensional drawing and batch test data are available, which is usually not the case for the obsolete original.
Not a precious-metal route
Searches for KSO part numbers are frequently made by parties interested in recovering silver and palladium from used capacitors. We manufacture and supply capacitors only — we do not purchase used parts and do not carry out recovery or refining.

Can CV series capacitors replace KSO-1 … KSO-13 directly?
The electrical ranges overlap and the dielectric principle is the same, so the substitution is normally straightforward. Send the specific KSO variant and the required capacitance and voltage, and we confirm the corresponding CV model and case size.
Does the replacement improve anything?
Yes — the operating temperature rises from roughly +70 °C to +155 °C (up to +250 °C on special order), and the part comes with current documentation.
Do you buy used KSO capacitors for precious metal recovery?
No. We do not purchase used parts and do not carry out silver or palladium recovery.
